The signing ceremony for the Grant Assistance for the Grass-roots Human Security Project entitled “The Project for Promotion of Greenhouse Farming at Primary and Secondary Schools in Trinidad” took place on March 23, 2012, at Soong’s Great Wall, San Fernando. The Tabaquite Vegetable Farmers Association has received a Grant of up to US$ 80,351 from the Government of Japan for the procurement and installation of five (5) greenhouses in five (5) schools in Tabaquite and Siparia, namely Gasparillo Secondary School, Tabaquite Secondary School, Spring Vale Hindu Primary School, Tabaquite R.C. School and Penal Rock Presbyterian Primary School.
The ceremony was attended by His Excellency Yoshimasa Tezuka, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Dr. The Honourable Surujrattan Rambachan, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Communications and Member of Parliament for Tabaquite, Mr. Sylvester Pino, President of the Tabaquite Vegetable Farmers Association. Approximately forty-five (45) other distinguished guests were also in attendance.
His Excellency Yoshimasa Tezuka gave a speech at the ceremony, in which he argued the importance of effective land use for agriculture in island nations, such as Japan Trinidad and Tobago. He also noted that this project was expected to encourage the young generation to enter and remain in the agricultural sector, which will lead to the improvement of food security in the future.

The Government of Japan welcomes further opportunities to work with the Government and the people of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, all with a view to strengthening the bonds of friendship and mutual understanding which exist between the two countries.
